The Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills, Jamie Hepburn, visits Sofant Technologies

Mr Hepburn was given a tour of Sofant’s laboratories and the Scottish Microelectronics Centre as he discussed Sofant’s support for a PhD student under the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) program and how it fits into the larger plans for the future of high-tech manufacturing in Scotland.

Mr Hepburn said:

“This has been an excellent opportunity to meet with a highly innovative technology company, one which is benefiting through the NMIS doctorate programme and supporting a local student to ensure the future of electronics manufacturing technology in Scotland.

“It was also great to see first-hand how our support for education and industry is being implemented. Companies like Sofant are building on our proud record of innovation in the electronics sector, where we continue to play a leading role.”

The electronics industry routinely produces complex consumer products like smartphones at breath taking scale.
