Role Summary

We are seeking a talented and motivated technician to join our team. The successful candidate will have experience in all soldering techniques including through hole, surface mount and component rework who will be responsible for producing high quality hardware builds. The ideal candidate will have good troubleshooting skills and problem solving skills with a commitment to quality and efficiency. Knowledge of operating wafer test and other lab equipment would also be a benefit and aligns with a percentage of the role.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities include:

  • Perform soldering operations at PCB level using both through hole and surface mount component soldering techniques to IPC standards.

  • Read and interpret schematics and work instructions to understand soldering requirements and specifications.

  • Prepare components and PCB’s for soldering including cleaning, tinning, and flux application as necessary.

  • Inspect hardware builds for solder connection quality, completeness and conformity to IPC standards.

  • Modify and rework faulty components as necessary through inspection and debug methodology.

  • Perform wafer probing and package test using automated test equipment (ATE) and manual test setups.

  • Troubleshoot test equipment and test setups to identify root cause of test failures and implement corrective actions.

  • Conduct tests and experiments using handlers and probers, accurately recording results.

  • Conduct bench level tests and experiments on products in development.

  • Perform Maintenance and calibration of the lab equipment.

  • Support production test schedules and meet testing deadlines to ensure timely delivery of products to customers.

  • Undertake good housekeeping, maintaining a tidy work environment and stock management.

  • Work with vendors to order replacement components or parts to maintain full operation of the Sofant labs and lab equipment.

Person Specification

Essential

  • 2 years minimum experience of soldering electronic components.

  • IPC qualified (IPC-A-610 and / or IPC J-STD-001).

  • Through hole soldering and surface mount rework experience to IPC7711/21 certification

  • HND/HNC in Electronic Engineering or equivalent. Experience in lieu will be considered.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Strong analytical problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues

  • High level of personal motivation and a desire to learn and develop new skills.

  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Motivated, independent problem-solver.

Desirable

  • Hands on experience of semiconductor test equipment and methodologies including wafer probe, package testing and Automated test systems (ATE).

  • Familiarity with test equipment such as probers, handlers, testers and probe cards.

  • Familiarity with test software and programming languages (e.g. LabVIEW, Python).

  • Familiarity with RF testing above 1GHz.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to ESD and safety (e.g., ISO 9001) is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of Excel or similar analysis tools.

  • Experience with Ball Shear and Die Shear machines.
