Role Summary

The Graduate Layout Engineer will be trained to take responsibility for creating schematics and PCB layouts for the design team. The Graduate Layout Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the PCB software package, libraries and database. The role will consist of an initial 6 month internal training program under the mentoring of senior engineers.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities at the end of training include:

  • Build and maintain component libraries and database in PCB Layout Software

  • Create schematics based on requirements from Design Engineers

  • Layout of printed circuit boards based on schematics

  • Ensure PCB designs follow best practices for Design for Manufacture

  • Manage PCB manufacturers through manufacturing engineering change requests and review of manufacturer gerber files

Person Specification

Essential

  • BSc Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualification

  • Knowledge and experience of laying out PCBs as part of course work

  • Desire to learn and develop new skills

  • Attention to detail and structured approach to tasks

  • Demonstrated ability of working independently with minimal supervision

  • High levels of energy and the ability to work with both commercial and technical employees

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience creating PCB schematic, layout and library items

  • PCB Layout Experience using Altium Designer

  • Familiarity with IPC standards IPC-7351, IPC-2221, IPC-2252
