Sofant Technologies Ltd is a highly innovative technology company which based in the heart of Edinburgh, we are a growing company with a talented team of around 40 people. We are in the process of launching a satellite communications terminal which is industry-leading in terms of Size, Weight, Power consumption and Cost (SWAP-C).

Sofant has developed a low-cost phased array antenna platform which solves fundamental power consumption and heat problems in high frequency antenna systems. We are an ambitious later stage start-up which has received £20m in private equity and grant funding. Sofant is targeting a $11B market opportunity in satellite communications and in the future, it will target 5G and 6G applications with the same platform.

Description

The Graduate RF System Engineer will support requirement management, algorithm development, hardware design, analysis, integration and testing of Sofant phase arrays.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities include:

  • Contribute on requirement management: requirement breakdown from customer requirements to system, subsystem and board level requirements including traceability, interface drawings, compliance and verification matrixes

  • Contribute to board level design, simulation, analysis, component selection, schematic capture, layout strategies

  • Document technical design, test procedures and user guides

  • Perform RF measurements and testing using lab equipment such as VNA, spectrum analysers, signal generators, oscilloscopes etc.

  • Perform hardware debug and troubleshooting

  • Perform board and system level analysis and troubleshooting of RF performance issues

  • Develop algorithms for control of RF blocks and RF signal processing

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including digital, software, qualification, mechanical and project engineers

Essential

  • Bachelor/Master of Electrical Engineering

  • Good understanding of RF and microwave principles

  • Demonstrated ability of working independently with minimal supervision

  • High levels of energy and the ability to work with both commercial and technical employees

  • Have analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills

  • Team player with a willingness to learn and adapt

Desirable

  • Familiarity with RF simulation tools such as Keysight ADS, Keysight SystemVue, CST

    • Familiarity with PCB design CAD tools such as Altium Designer

    • Programming/scripting skills for data analysis and algorithm development (i.e. GNU Octave, Matlab, Python)

    • Knowledge and experience with RF cascade analysis

    • Knowledge and experience with mixed signal PCB design
